ALEX CARRE DE MALBERG

Alex is currently the Chief Investment Officer of Noor Capital PSC, a UAE Central Bank regulated-investment company, and a board member of AlPer Solutions, a DIFC licensed fund administration company.

Alex has over 22 years of investment banking and fund management experience, accumulated at Lazard Frères (New York), Equinox (Hong Kong and Singapore), Rothschild (Paris and Abu Dhabi), Abu Dhabi Investment Company and recently at Commercial Bank of Qatar (CBQ) as Executive General Manager. He has been based in the Gulf for the past eight years.

Alex has originated, led or worked on over 50 successful transactions, for a combined value in excess of US$10 bn. Alex has advised on numerous private placement (both equity and debt) and market related transactions, including IPOs, secondary offerings, take-privates, and/or reverse listings on the New York, Toronto, Hong Kong, London and Paris stock exchanges, as well as emerging markets. Alex was also named one of the top 6 bond finance industry figures in Qatar in Oct 2012. He is a frequent contributor to finance-related conferences, more recently at the Euromoney GCC Financial Conference in March 2014.

Alex is an engineer by training, educated in France and in Amherst, MA (USA), with an MBA from HEC Paris.

 


NEVEN HENDRICKS

Neven Hendricks heads Delphini Restructuring and Advisory Services, based in Southern Africa. He started and managed a regulatory advisory business active across 18 countries in the Middle East, North Africa and South Africa. Neven also served in joint management and on the board of Deloitte Corporate Finance Limited, based in Dubai, and the Executive Committee of Deloitte Middle East. He built the DIFC regulated Corporate Finance business for Deloitte in the Middle East and North Africa from a ‘green field’ entity to a staff of 220.

Initially joined NEDCOR, one of the largest banking groups in South Africa, as Head of Private Equity. Neven was then involved as CEO / Board Member in creating, leading and managing a specialized financial services group, Taquanta, built from a ‘brown field’ operation to around US$2.5 bn assets under management. At NEDCOR he also contributed in creating People’s Bank to service the ‘under-banked’ in South Africa.

Other experience includes M&A, capital raisings, public markets, strategic advice, setting up of financial and insurance institutions, consulting on process optimization and setting up enterprise performance management systems.

Neven’s commitment to social justice has many manifestations: Chairman of Save the Children, South Africa – a child protection and advocacy, international non-profit organization; Former chairman of Project Literacy in South Africa, an NGO involved in Adult Basic Education in Southern Africa; One of the founders of Ethembeni Enrichment Centre in Port Elizabeth, a facility that assists indigent black students with their education through computer assisted learning. While at NEDCO, Neven drove the bank’s initiative into Black Economic Empowerment (“BEE”).

He is also the youngest recipient of the Honours Tie Award, given for distinguished service to the education of chartered accountants in South Africa. Neven is a Chartered Accountant South Africa (CA(SA)), Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA), and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).

 


MICHAEL JALIMAN

Michael Jaliman assists clients with business strategy, organizational development and executive coaching. He has served as Senior Managing Director at Fujitsu Consulting and as the regional head of its financial services practice. At McKinsey & Company, he developed transformational leadership training and worked on corporate strategy. As Director of Strategic Planning at KPMG Asia Pacific, Michael developed strategy for building KPMG’s consulting practice in Asia and served as an adviser to business and government leaders.

As Executive Vice President of Twenty First Century Venture Partners, Michael invested in and advised early-stage technology companies. He has also advised the major political parties in Taiwan, and organized and moderated that nation’s first election debate.

Michael was a major party candidate for the United States Congress from New York, and has worked with several notable visionaries, including Buckminster Fuller and Dr. Jonas Salk, and has provided policy advice to U.S. political and economic leaders during the recent near-collapse of the financial sector.

Mr. Jaliman was awarded a B.A. with Honours in Economics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he was the President of the Student Government. He also has an MBA from Harvard Business School.

 


ANDREAS KARAS

Andreas was previously Deloitte & Touche Europe, Director in Corporate Finance, focus on acquisitions, capital-raising, and financial consulting. He has also served as an outside consultant on a project-by-project basis with such institutions such Abu Dhabi Investment Company (ADIC) / InvestAD, Deloitte, and has excellent working relationships with the principals of European, Canadian, Chinese and American public companies, as well as with boutique investment banks in Europe and Asia.

His prior involvement with large-scale development projects brought him closer to Callian, with a first focus on the One Bloor West project in Toronto, where he advised on securing an equity partner.

His academic work includes undergraduate and graduate studies in international relations and economics from the School of International Service (SIS) / American University, in Washington, D.C. (both through the Fulbright program).

On the non-profit front, Andreas’ personal contribution to society includes establishment of a small foundation (his non-profit initiatives are supported entirely by him and without any financial benefit or outside funding), www.andreaskaras.com, through which he also launched www.embracepeace.org.

Andreas is a CFA Institute member (CFA Level II passed). His languages include Greek (native); English and Russian (fluent); French and Spanish (well); Portuguese, Arabic and Chinese (basic).
